Dr. Kewei Wang is an endowed Changjiang Professor of Pharmacology and Dean of School of Pharmacy at Qingdao University, China. He currently also serves as the Director of Institute for Innovative Drug Discovery at the University. From 1997 to 2005, he was a Principal Scientist/team leader at Wyeth Neuroscience, Princeton, New Jersey, working on ion channel target identification/validation and screening of novel ion channel modulators for CNS diseases. From 2005-2014, he was a Professor in the department of Neurobiology at Medical School and also the Chair of Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The overall research in Dr. Wang’s lab is directed towards understanding the structure and modulation of ion channels, and identifying and validating ion channel targets and their modulators that have therapeutic potential for treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders such as pain, epilepsy, schizophrenia, stroke and depression.

Dr. Wang currently serves the Board Member and editor for Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology of Springer-Nature and a review editor for several journals including Frontiers in Neuroscience, Journal of General Physioogy, Pharmaceutica Sinica B, and Acta Neurpharmacologica.

Dr. Wang’s team has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as NATURE, NATURE NEUROSCI, NEURON, PNAS, MOL REPORTS, J MED CHEM, JPET, JBC, and BIOPHYSIOL J. etc, and he was granted for 11 patents.

Dr. Wang graduated with M.D. in medicine and obtained his Ph.D. in neurophysiology from Peking University Medical School in 1988. From 1988 to 1997, he was at University of Cambridge and then Yale University for postdoctoral training in the disciplines of pharmacology, biophysics and physiology.
